How tournaments use Hooper

Drive engagement and deliver personalized feedback to your players with Hooper, the first app to use AI to track stats and generate highlights clips with just a phone.

People playing basketball

elevate your event

Tournaments and exhibitions in basketball are spectacle events, full of unforgettable displays of athleticism and and jaw-dropping plays. These events are a way for players to showcase their skills in the limelight, and for the audience to really engage with their favorite players and teams.

A great example is March Madness. This NCAA tournament is nationally televised, and every players’ best (and worst) moments are captured and posted to social media channels for the world to view.  Rivalries and narratives form that keep the audience engaged and excited for more.

As an organizer of a basketball event, your goal is to capture the magic of March Madness. But it’s not that easy to capture lightning in a bottle. From talking with organizers, there are some common ways to elevate an event. A big one is hiring videographers to run up and down the court and capture the best plays. Despite the cost, this still has its limitations. Unless you have an army of cameras like the NBA, video footage is a good summary of an event but may not be able to preserve every moment from every game and every player. As a result, you may miss out on important moments that could otherwise be shared or used by the team to improve.

Create highlights with Hooper

Integrating Hooper into your event is one way to replicate a multi camera system with a phone and a tripod. Hooper leverages the latest AI models to track every player and what they are doing on the court. Made a windmill dunk? A behind the back pass? Or a logo three? Hooper will automatically take raw footage, and cut out highlights for each play, categorized by player. What you get in return is a detailed stat sheet for every player and footage for every action they took.

Capture every moment.

What we’ve seen organizers that use Hooper do is craft an improved player and audience experience. For instance after a tournament, every player gets an automatic mixtape of their best moments to share with others. For some of our other events, we’ve seen teams go to dinner together, cast Hooper on the tv and broadcast the best clips from the night. Reliving these moments as a team are the kinds of things that make these events special.

Spotlight: Bay Area Classic

Bay Area classic is an annual basketball charity event where popular Asian social media influencers are split into two teams and compete. Past attendees include Sam Song Li, Phil Wong, Steven Lim, and more. As a fan of these influencers ourselves, it is special to see them interact in a new context that is so different than what you typically see them doing online.

Hooper partnered with the Bay Area Classic to record and process footage of the full game. After the event, a mixtape was made for each player and sent to their respective teams.

To remember the event, we made a mixtape stitching together our favorite highlight moments captured by app. If you are running a basketball event and are interested in partnering with Hooper, reach out to team@hooper.gg.
